What to Expect
Welcome to HappiNest!

HappiNest was created to be a safe, comforting space for individuals and families in our community—a place to heal, grow, and find connection through the power of therapy. Life can feel overwhelming when you're weighed down by anxiety, sadness, uncertainty, or relationship struggles. It's hard to live fully when doubt, shame, fear, or trauma are in the driver’s seat.

In our sessions, I begin by getting to know you and your family on a personal level. I want to understand what brings you to therapy, explore your best hopes for the future, and help you identify your strengths and goals. As we move forward, I also offer psychoeducation to support your understanding of how the mind and body work together in the healing process.

Using a combination of communication-building skills and mindfulness techniques, we’ll work together as a team to shift unhelpful patterns into healthier, more fulfilling behaviors. I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families across diverse ages, backgrounds, cultures, races, genders, sexualities, and socioeconomic experiences.

My areas of focus include depression, anxiety, mood dysregulation, dissociation, trauma, grief and loss, identity exploration, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, relationship and family concerns, and more. No matter what brings you here, you are welcome at HappiNest.
About Me

Hi, I'm Rachel Higgins!

I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with a deep passion for supporting individuals, couples, and families as they navigate life’s challenges and work toward healing and growth. I hold a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University (2022) and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas State University (2014)—go Bobcats!

My approach to therapy is grounded in systemic, post-modern perspectives, and I am trained in Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Collaborative Therapy. I also specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a trauma-focused therapy, as well as Equine-Assisted EMDR, a unique modality that combines the power of nature and animals with healing.

Outside the therapy room, I’m a proud wife, mom to two spirited little girls, and a born-and-raised Houstonian. I love exploring the city’s food scene—especially sushi or a really good plate of Mexican food. My family and I enjoy taking RV road trips, discovering new places, and embracing new adventures. When I’m not on the go, you’ll probably find me curled up with a good book or enjoying a movie night with loved ones.

I believe therapy works best when it feels like a true connection. If you have any questions or just want to get to know me better before starting therapy, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m happy to share more.
